Sometimes filling floor gaps is a viable option that many people like better, since it provides uniform floor finish and helps exclude draughts. FlooringFirst! employs two major methods of gap filling intended for floor boards and solid wood planks:
Resin Filling (For gaps under 6mm)
The conventional way of floor board gap filling employs the use of the resin-dust mix that comes off the floor while sanding with 80 grit or finer abrasives. This is the most inexpensive method that happens to be the least effective one as well, since material can easily crack and chip off, especially if gaps are over 4mm wide.
A very simple procedure - simply mix the gap filler resin with fine, clean dust and apply to gaps with flat spatula. Typically done after sanding with at least p80 grit.
Cost of service - £4.00 per m².
Solid Wood Strip Filling (Recommended where possible)
We are of the opinion that filling gaps with wood splinters delivers the best results. Those who really want only the best will be pleased to find out there´s a lasting solution for their needs. Gaps will become a permanent feature and last as long as the floor itself. We do this using shivers of wood that are first cut and clipped off to a tapered shape then glued and hammered in place before being planed off and sanded smooth.
The results are truly spectacular and definitely worth the extra cost.
Cost of service - £7.00 per m².
Wood Floor Staining
Staining floorboards, if done properly, can make stained timber planks indiscernible from authentic wood. Example: staining pine floorboard with an oak stain will make the pine floorboards look like bona fide oak boards. If you would rather fancy them in different color, you better use a water based stain, although there are oil stains available as well. The stain must be evenly applied with a brush and then removed with a clean dry rag in order to penetrate the wood in depth. We supply our teams with stains produced by leading industry brands and you have a huge variety of shades to choose from. Staining requires expertise and typically adds time to the overall job, but it is well worth it.
Cost of service - £6.00 per m².
Please Note:
Wood is raw material that expands and contracts depending on environmental factors (temperature, humidity etc) meaning that ALL fillers can work loose and fall off over time. Health hazard - please, make sure you work with resin fillers in properly ventilated rooms only. |
